Standing Charges.
Options
I am going to switch from Scottish Power to someone(anyone). Although various companies in the uswitch.com site tell me they can save X amount of money per year, no-one mentions their standing charges. There's no point in me switching, because someone is going to save £200 per year, if I then find out that the new companie's standing charges are much higher than I'm already paying.

some companies don't have standing charges- this is often included in higher unit price-these price comparison sites are ok but can be out of date because prices change all the time.0

The standing charges are normally taken into account in the comparison site calculation.
That said most tariffs these days do not have a standing charge, but charge extra for the first x kWh per year(tier 1) and the rest at tier 2 price - it works out the same unless you use a very low amount in a a billing period - e.g. you switch of gas during summer.0 -
Equipower and Equigas don't have standing charges, and charge the same unit price no matter how much or how little you use, or how you pay.
Note: They have not put their prices up for a year and can be expected to announce an increase shortly.
To include their rates on U switch you have to tick the social tariff box. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
On uswitch, if you click on the tarif plan name once you have your comparison list, it opens a window with their charges detailed.

This is true but why use a comparison site that only deals with some suppliers? If you enter your details into a site like ukpower, they cover ALL suppliers. It makes no sense to miss out on what could be the cheapest supplier in your region just because uswitch don't deal with them and make money from them.
HTH:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Totally agree, U Switch always seems to put up a talking head in the media when price rises come around.
I suppose it gives some people the imrpession that they are the only switching site.
PS I really like the Smart meter that UK power has on its site, that an mseer recommended.
