How brave you are then - those whimpish Americans eh?
I find the above quote unbelievable - talk about being irresponsible. I supect if you were injured at the 'party' you would have been on your own in respect of your isurance claim due to your contributory negligence or just downright stupidity.
Travellers were repeatedly told to stay away from 'hot spots' - not partake in them. Certainly the recent events must surely now have made you aware of how stupid you were.
Party atmosphere? well it certainly wasn't yesterday!
Dont be so sanctimonious my actions were calculated, Sadly my American rellies are sheep at the very best and believe any crap fed to them by CNN and Fox News especially any crap regarding 'terrosism'.
The biggest danger at the 'party' was not red shirt protesters or police or army, it was the usual maniacal moped riders.
As for stupid actions, purlease, I have lived and worked in both Israel and the Gaza Strip when there was troubles and in Malaysia when it kicked off there with mobs hunting for americans and all was fine.
As usual travel with a healthy dose of common sense and you will be fine.0 -
Can't see this as it's blocked here
I'll be home in a couple of months, so if I remember I'll look at it then.
fyi, I didn't 'ignore FO advice'. When I went there was no blanket advice against travel.
Having said that though, (agreeing with the above post about over-reaction from the FO) I would go back tomorrow, as from my personal experience it is perfectly safe if you avoid the easily avoided areas. Also, as has been said, as a foriegner, you are far more likely to come to grief in the USA (or Manchester for that matter) than you are in Thailand.
Don't worry about my post. I always go to places that they say I shouldn't.

I bow to you superior knowledge of international conflict!
All I can state is disregard FO advice at your own peril - although your arrogance suggests that you would think they were wrong as well!
BTW - What is 'terrosism'?0 -
Poor OP, caught up in a foreign conflict and now an online one too! Everyone including Thomson hopes that this situation eases itself soon. Thomson will be constantly reviewing the situation and if the FCO advice stays the same they will have to cancel your trip. But they don't have to do so now.
Obviously you still want a honeymoon so start looking at what alternative options you might like. As others have said if you had your heart set on Thailand maybe you can simply cancel the Bangkok portion of the trip or spend those four days in another part of the country. I hope so, because tourism is an important part of the economy and when people stay away this hits many honest, hardworking local people.0 -

Do I look worried?
I spend most of my life travelling (hardly ever visit the UK anymore
), and some of the places I am sent are a little on the 'risky' side. Libya, Syria and Yemen for example. Thailand is a walk in the park

Good advice.
OP, I've just got this from the FO website:-
FCO advice against all travel to the city of Bangkok does not apply to passengers transiting Bangkok airport on their way by air to other destinations, either within Thailand or internationally.
If you go, I hope you both have a great time.

There is always one, for the record I will happily disregard FO advice, as that isnt much better than the standards of journalism offered up by Fox and CNN.
I remember being on the phone to my old lady when I was in the Gaza strip, when I told her where I was, she burst into tears and said "but they are killing each other", I looked around the phone box, hearing crickets chirrup, children playing with footballs, and generally scenes of normal life and I wondered exactly where is this trouble happening?
Now there is no way I would have gone there if I was american, now that would have been suicidal and a risk too far
