Do I need my energy suppliers permission to go onto Fuel Direct?

I NEED to go on Fuel Direct - there is no other way to make my payments to my electricity company (NPower).
I was told that I need to ask NPower's consent to go onto Fuel Direct...but three weeks have passed and they still haven't been able to give me an answer, no clear yes or no, not even an acknowledgement of what I'm asking.
I'm stuck waiting for them to respond to email, when they do respond they just keep telling me to call them despite knowing I cannot use a phone - the most recent email they advised me to call them, but this time it was to go onto a different tariff, not to get onto Fuel Direct. It's HUGELY frustrating as the longer it goes on the longer my bills are going unpaid.
Do I really need to wait for them to say yes, or could I just apply for Fuel Direct now? I don't know what to do

If it's anything like British gas you contact the benefits and request fuel direct. Once they then contact the Energy company the follow up action should get put on hold until the quotation is accepted.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
