Left without a car because of my thoughtfulness

Bit of a rant here, probably not a lot that can be done about it.

I had a car crash just over 3 weeks ago. The car was picked up by a garage who left a courtesy car. A few days later I was going on holiday so told them they should take the car back so somebody else could use it. I was expecting the repairs to only take a week or so.

When I returned from holiday I had a message saying they were waiting for parts and the repairs were taking longer than expected. I asked about having a courtesy car back and was told they don't have any available. I got another status update from the garage today and they have noticed some more damage they apparently missed before. This has required them to order even more parts.

So my car has now entered its third week in the garage and I am stuck without a car. But if I had been selfish and kept hold of their car when I was on holiday, I would have a car right now.

With me needing to travel to work and my wife being 7 months pregnant, I really feel lost without a car. It's amazing how much you take a car for granted.

It's not a problem getting to work, getting the bus is fine. It's more my wife that I am worried about. I like having the safety net of a car in case there are any problems.

I have been told to keep all my bus tickets and taxi receipts and that I can claim the money back when the other insurance company (eventually) admits liability.

Like I said before, I just wanted a bit of a moan really.
