If you have the other person's account details, you can "wire" the money across from your bank account. You may either have to go into your local branch to do this. It usually costs around £15 for me, but I am guessing these charges will change! Also I am not sure if all banks do this; I know HSBC does. Usually takes about a week to clear funds, I cannot remember for certain.

Thanks, are the likely to give me a better rate than people like TorFX?

No idea, I have never used them.

I wire money because I don't have to physically withdraw it! I don't really know how the other systems work. :(

I've used HiFX (http://www.hifx.co.uk/) before, could do it all online, was a very good rate and they guarantee no fees, including at the receiving end.
