Discounted gift vouchers - lost in post

Hello all, I am new to the forum. I ordered some gift vouchers (more than £200 worth) from a discounts and offers website for my husband's birthday. They offered two delivery options, royal mail special delivery at £4.50 or royal mail first class for free. However, they stated on the website that if royal mail first class is used, they won't be able to reimburse me the money if the vouchers are lost in transit. I thought £4.50 was a rip-off and chose the free option. Now it's been nearly 10 days and I still haven't received the vouchers yet. I phoned the company up today and they claimed the vouchers were sent out the second day after I placed the order... I am from the US but the seller claimed that in the UK if items are lost in the post, the seller won't be responsible for the loss if the items are not insured, which is the case for the vouchers I ordered and this has been clearly stated on their website... Does that mean I will lose all the money I paid??:( To me, it is utterly unfair for them to deny responsibility for the lost items in transit. After all, my contract is with the seller to receive the goods I ordered, not with Royal Mail. Do I stand a chance to challenge them on this? Thanks in advance!

The responsibility is with the seller to deliver your product, it doesn't matter if you choose the insured option or not.
Are you sure it's lost though, it may just be delayed. Quite a lot of flights out the country have been delayed and cancelled including those used to transport airmail, so may be worth giving it a few more days before doing anything.0 -

just to clarify, the seller was charging what Special Delivery costs
so it wasnt a rip off
whilst it is down to the seller to get the goods to you in law( and they are naive to allow a choice on postage)
had you paid for SD ,you would have had your vouchers and no hassle0 -

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, I am currently living in the UK. So it seems the vouchers have indeed been lost in the post. Am I right in assuming that the responsibility is with the seller even though they have declared on their website that first class delivery can not be refunded? Should I just argue with the seller then that I don't even have any proof from them that the order has been dispatched? Many thanks!0 -
This wasn't by any chance through Motivano was it?0
