Hi there

Can anyone tell me if the Maintenance Grant and local postcode bursary are classed as taxable income for tax credit purposes ? I know the loans probably arent as they are repayable

Many thanks

The Maintenance Loan (although not the Fee Loan) are normally counted for benefits purposes, although I'm not certain that this applies to tax credits.

Indeed. I can imagine the maintenance grant may be counted but a maintenance loan - surely that has to be paid back, you wouldnt count a normal loan as income as it has to be paid back

No you wouldn't think so would you.....however, it is counted as an income for any means tested benefits - don't know about child tax credits though.

It's only taxable income that's counted. Student finance (any) isn't counted.
