HSBC are far more efficient than the Nationwide clowns.

Actually, as far as switching to a current account is concerned, you simply submit the account number and sort code - what could possibly be simpler? Nationwide's process is unsurpassed (as well as being highly profitable) By comparison, the last time I used HSBC to switch, they actually had the cheek to write to me and say: "it's gone wrong at our end, please supply all payee details so we can continue" So, then, you're doing all the work to claim that £50. [Shouldn't be like that]

I think the reason it works so well with Nationwide is the switching is for existing accounts as well as new - whereas the likes of HSBC use switching incentives to get you to apply and open a new account - which all takes much longer, of course!

Wrote them an email there. Told of my frustration that things had not nearly turned out the way I had expected. Think I did a good job, hopefully someone now may finally get in touch and restore what little faith I have in their Building Society...!

Finally, someone rang me and I have had the £75 paid into my account today.

They had no explaination of why it took so long for them to do anything, not did they give as an apology. Anyway, it seems like the email must have worked, although no-one has directly responded to it.

I'll give it a while and most probs move everything over to Halifax. The thing is that I have now three times changed my DD details with the golf club. Is a little embarrassing, but when you are getting money for switching accounts, you can live with it !

Cheers for your help again, folks.

Glad it has been finally sorted for you. :j

If you do wish to move to the Halifax go into the branch and ask if they are offering a switching incentive at branch level. It is not advertised but managers have a budget to draw upon. £50 seems to be the going rate - well it was when I did it.

I might also suggest that you leave the Nationwide a/c open as they seem to have switching incentives every few months. Many of us have received several payouts with little hassle, although I recognise that your first experience wasn't stress free.
