Speed of account crediting

I am just curious to know why the speed of crediting various accounts varies so much.
With my Lloyds current account I can now credit my Nationwide flexaccount intantaneously, the same is true of my son's Barclays current account.
However, when I transfer money to a credit card account (Nationwide Gold credit card, LTSB Airmiles or Barclaycard) it always takes 24 hours.
The transactions are all by Internet banking BTW

Because on credit card accounts there is an extra step - the money goes from your bank into the credit card company bank account. It then has to be fished out of there, analysed, and credited to your card account.0

Payments to certain credit card accounts (e.g. MBNA) will go by FPS if they are within your own bank's outbound FPS limits.
Depends on whether the credit card company's systems, and their agency bank if applicable, have been upgraded.Ethical moneysaver0
