I wont go around one because i would be sobbing too...but if you think about it,the ones in rescue centres are the lucky ones..they are not being starved, kicked, abused etc, they are being fed and have a safe place to sleep.
Some of the cats in the local sanctuary are there as the result of relationship breakdowns, people dying or when people emigrate and their plans for the cats have fallen through.
I thought I'd mention that as some people are put off rescue animals as they think they are all "damaged goods" that have been abused and will be hard work. Some are but most are well adjusted and usually when you give a rescue cat a home they will love you so much more for it.
Our new cat Monty was a sad case - tummy troubles, underweight, half his fur missing, returned to the sanctuary after only 3 days at another home - but he settled in straight away and is the most loving cat you could ask for, and after 7 weeks he has put on 4 pounds, his fur is growing back and his tummy has settled down.0 -

Bless him. It's amazing how quickly and how well little pets can bounce back with a lot of TLC. I did something similar a few years ago and found it very rewarding. My Tommy died last year at 14 but I miss him so much - once he had settled with me his lovely personality was revealed !!

I dont really understand why some of you people get so involved with animal feelings at all !!
Whingeing and griping at all the sad little things !
So get a life like me ! OK ?
Well i`m off to bed now as the cats have told me its time to go !
The budgie wants the light out so he can sleep !
And the dog has reliably informed me that the local area is now safe after his excursion round the garden !
So be like me and dont let the animals rule your life !A Bast**d I May Be ! I Was Born One !
Whats Your Excuse ?0 -
Cor, I was almost leaping at you then

I've never had a 'problem' cat from rescue - all have been very affectionate and no trouble. One was given up when her owners got puppies (!), one was left when his owners moved and Noah was a very poorly stray.

After bringing our Cat Mia back from the RSPCA, she settled in the house within 2-3 days, found her favourite sleeping spots and is really an affectionate girl.
She loves the back garden and loves it even more if you're out there with her.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440 -
I got my cats from my local RSPCA rescue place. I'm not a fan of the RSPCA (my mum did voluntary work at their head office and they don't appear to be interested in animal welfare) but the local RSPCA centres do a good job despite the fact that none of the money appears to filter down to them...too many business lunches and new cars to worry about at HQ.
I was in tears when I went to the rescue centre. I wanted a couple of cats and could quite easily have taken them all but took 2 that I wanted. They had just gone up for re-homing the day I saw them and they'd spent 3 months in the cage. They are not beautiful, just normal moggies...8 years later living a wonderful life with me.
I now volunteer at my local RSPCA rescue centre and when I have a chance take dogs for a walk or just generally offer some help. Still very sad though as I sometimes get quite close to the dogs I walk and knowing that they may not around for much longer is saddening. I try not to get too involved but it's hard sometimes, so OP I do understand how you feel.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
