A long time ago i connected my ipod to my computer with a firewire card, the OS was XP and there were no issues.
Along came vista and i started using USB to connect my ipod as it didn’t come with a firewire card. I remember at some point to kill some time i tried connecting up my old firewire card but didn’t show any signs and life.
Anyway, now i have windows seven and i need a working firewire card to edit film footage. I have both the old firewaire card and a new one installed on my computer, none show any signs of seeing the attached devices. I have tried two cameras and my ipod. Both cards show in device manager. I have played around with the drivers but none have made a difference. At last of all i have even tried both cards on a different computer running xp with no success.
(Firewire card does charge ipod.)
Any ideas? Thanks

From what your saying it sounds like both the cards a dead but are letting power through to charge the ipod.
Having tried on another PC altogether and those not being picked up would support this. How many other PCI devices do you have and are they working ok?
It could be a faulty PCI slot that is causing the boards to die? If you can get a new one and install on to another PC check it works - if it does and you put it in your PC and it doesn't. Time for a new motherboard.
Let me know how you get on.0 -
newer iPods dont support firewire. Apple even dropped them off the MacBooks0

Thanks for the replies.
My main computer is a spanker so i wouldn't expect both pci slots to be dead. Every thing else on it runs great.
Looks like i'll be traveling 100 miles round trip for mac access. I was toying with using USB 2 but with me using mini DV i'm told this wont work.
My ipod is no a touch but is post 2005, which is when i believe they stoped itumes transfers.0
