Hi first time on this board so forgive me if this has been asked before.
Recently our laptop give up the ghost and died. I didnt take any back ups (dho).
Is there a way of retrieving the info on it. There is nothing important really but we do have all the photos of the kids, house renovation etc over the last few years.
Cheers

Hi there,
when you say it died, do you mean the laptop display, it won't power up or it just won't boot into windows?
If it just won't boot into windows, take out the hard drive and put it into another PC as a slave and try and access your files that way. If it is the drive itself you can take it into places like PC world and they offer a data recovery service.
good luck -I know how annoying it is to lose photo's0 -
Wouldn't bother with PC world, post the symptoms, if the disk isn't caput, you can do it for free.
If the hard disk is really dead, it will cost £100s to recover.!!

If the hard drive is ok then just buy a cheap caddy place drive inside and connect to another PC.
Don't go to PC World look what happened to Gary Glitter. only kidding..........0 -

PC world have a fix price for fixing laptops I think it around £200 and they take weeks to fix any thing. My mum got a printer from pcworld after about 6 weeks it would no longer feed 6x4 photo paper so it when in for repair 3 weeks later she got a call telling her it had been fixed.. Got home pluged it in tryed to printer 6x4 and it would not feed the paper.. I looked at the report and 9 people had looked at and passed it on to the next person and the last person printer a test page on A4 paper and send it back.
I would get some local guy off yell.com be a lot cheaper then pcworld as I lot faster.0
