Cleaning My Rental Flat

I am due to leave my rented flat soon so i need to clean it so i dont get deductions from my deposit
mostly i have plasterboarded walls painted magnolia - these have some marks on them (where brushed against with boxes etc)-
whats good for getting these types of marks off - i've been told 'sugar soap' but is this the best stuff?
also the white plastic bath, white plastic kitchen sink and white ceramic sink are a wee bit grubby (food staining on the kitchen sink, rings around the plugholes, ground in type dirt in bath - p.s. im not a dirtbag:D honest!)
the carpet is fawn/dark beige colour - no real stains but could do with a clean - i dont want to pay a professional company,
whats the best method products that people have used? any handy hints? i'll try anything once:D

For cheap carpet cleaning we rented a RugDoctor carpet cleaner. It cost about £15 to hire for 24 hours and the detergents about £15 (for a three bedroom house). Enter your postcode on here, https://www.rugdoctor.co.uk , and it will tell you the nearest place.
As for the walls, we had magnolia painted plasterboard and soap and water did fine. We had children marks everywhere too. All the best for your move.0 -
We ended up painting over the marks at my son's last flat because the paint on the walls was such poor quality it came off with the marks. We just got a tester pot and touched it up rather than attempting to clean all the marks off.
For the bathroom etc. a paste of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda should shift the grime.0 -
try soap and water first on the paint marks, rub gently though as you dont want to take all the paint off too.
it may be cheaper than you think to get the carpets professionally steam cleaned. it only cost us 70 quid for a 4 bed house (herts) and came up incredibly well. whateveryou do, its much easier to clean them after you have moved your stuff out.
neat bleach on the stubborn stains should shift. if its limescale, vinegar is good.0 -
A bucket of water with a squeeze of washing up liquid might well work to clean the walls but sugar soap would be better. I'd probably just use whatever I happened to have in but if you do want to buy sugar soap it is cheap in any hardware store.
As far as the carpets go I think you should just vac them and carefully sponge any stains. Anything other than that is the landlords responsibility. He isn't entitled to make deductions for reasonable wear and tear, only for damages. Cleaning between tenants in an expected cost that he should have budgeted for and he has no right to withhold your deposit to pay for it. Just tidy and clean the house to a reasonable standard and take photographs to prove it was in reasonable condition when you left it.0 -
I would use Stardrops for most of the cleaning.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
