    It's the same price

    On your tariff:
Tier 1 is 7.203p per kWh
Tier 2 is 3.632p per kWh

One imperial unit = 3 metric units (approximately). Hence an imperial meter records 1/3 the amount of units for the same amount of gas.

1 metric gas unit would cost about 40p based on your tier 2 price

1 imperial gas unit would cost about £1.20 based on your tier 2 price

I said we should never have gone metric;)

Actually you have it the wrong way around, an Imperial gas unit is unit is much more expensive than a Metric gas unit.

All that matters is the number of kWh you consume.

Incidentally you have very expensive gas.

I've been thinking it's rather cheap until we went metric. Definitely time to get looking at other suppliers although I do understand there would be an amount to pay if we left British Gas fixed price 2011 early.

If you move to BG Websaver 7(BG's cheapest tariff) people have reported that they will waive the early penalty charge.

It appears that they have discretion to waive, but some don't. If the first won't hang up and try again - or speak to a supervisor.
