i am looking at getting my car insurred without my partner on it as it may be expensive. he was insured under me. he had a few claims . one now closed (no claim), one a claim from the other party (there was oil on the road so not really his fault as such) , and one we are makign a claim for as someone bumped into us. but now with the moneysupermarket.com website it asked if i have made a claim . i dont know if this refers to me as a person which is not me but my other half insurred under my policy. please could someone clarify for me. thanks in advance.

It's claims under your policy so you would need to declare.

Agree, unfortunately rather than treating each driver on the policy differently, it's the number of claims in the life of that policy, unless it is a different kind of policy I haven't heard of before which makes a distinction between named drivers.

Worth getting a seperate policy for him if you want to build up a no claims record yourself.

Accident history is per person / driver - you were not responsible for an accident your partner was involved in and as such insurers will not penalise you for it.

However, if you include your partner as a named driver the premium will undoubtedly increase due to the higher risk of a driver with an accident history, if that makes sense?

When applying for a new policy the wording of the questions may differ from: Have YOU been involved in any accidents, to: Have you made any claims under your policy.

Clearly these are two very different things.
