Am i too late...? Was considering starting seeds in window sill propagator then moving to outside growbag or similar??
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Well, I'm in the midlands and I've thrown out some weedy seedlings; you'd be better off buying a couple of plants and then rooting the sideshoots to make more plants than starting from scratch now.

Unless we have a fabulous november again. Who knows!!!

Well,I have put some seeds 2 weeks ago, as my first ones where out on a frosty night, due to me ignoring TV for a weekend. They may not do well, but I am giving it a go - they are in the propagator and one is out (about 2-3 inches by now) and in its own pot.

The original ones seem to be doing ok - just the lower leaves where damaged by frost, the top ones look fine - they are now in my 'poly-tunnel'/greenhouse (it is a tiny one, only 80cm high), and seem to be fine. No flowers yet though!

There's really not a lot of point sowing tomato seed now, I'd have said. You won't get a very long growing season, being in the North, so it would probably better to buy in a few well grown plants.

Mine have been in since late Feb and they are still just about 6 inches or thereabouts. I think the second batch planted in April will overtake them soon!

Mine are pretty titchy too, but then everything i'm growing is pretty titchy at the moment, with the exception of my sugar snap peas which are doing quite well. I don't think so much it is doing things wrong, but things like the weather, the compost we use etc affect how things are growing....and the onions.

I think it is easy to feel a bit downhearted when we read posts from readers whose fruits and veggies are doing really well...so early on... but it has been the coldest winter in a long time and taking the varients into consideration, i really don't think it is surprising that some of our efforts will be lagging behind a bit, at least until we have some consistantly warmer weather.

I think it depends on where you are in the UK; it takes 6 weeks for 'spring' to move up the UK...anyone dahn sarf might well have big toms but in the midlands and oop norf things might be less rampant.
