Vaillant Fault Code 5.23 or S.23

My boiler is not igniting, its ten years old and had the diverter valve replaced for third time last year. Now its not firing and the green light keeps flashing all the time, cold water out of shower and for heating. Somtimes it works but this morning it wont work.

Is it a blocked gas valve?

My dad has a friend who could look at it, but I have absolutely no money to pay for a repair.

s23 is a fault for ignition sequence ,could be a gas suply problem but i would definately get a professional in to look at it dont put money before safety,
your dad would be better lending you some money than his mates time
  • I wish it was as simple as lending money. He said he would have a word with his friend to see what they can do but it wont be immediate. But my parents are not that helpful, they help their friends but not their children.

Always been that way. Its lighting sometimes but not always.

I cant get credit and I am stuck so if I have to have cold showers then thats what it will be.

the water supply if fine because its between 1 and 2 and I regularly top it up.

It would help if you told us the model of Vaillant you have.

I will take a guess and assume it is a Turbomax Plus?

If so 'S' codes are not fault codes. They are status codes that tell you what the boiler is doing at that precise moment in time.

If my assumptions are correct, this S23 is telling you the boiler is in 'warmstart' mode, also known as pre-heat.

You could try turning the pre-heat off and see if it will fire.

If there is a fault the boiler will lock out and give you a 'F' code, which will help point to what the fault is.

As your financial circumstances seem dire, you could contact warmfront and see if there is any help for you, or if you have children, social services or the council may be able to help.

As already pointed out, this should, sadly, not be attempted to be fixed by you.

Its a turbomax and now I realise its not a fault code, but now its working again. its says in the book the water needle should be between 1 and 1.5 bar but mine is above 1.5 bar.

I have just followed the warm start instructions in the booklet to turn the water temp control knob all way to right for a short time then turn it back to desire temperature. And guess what the boiler lit straightaway showing green and amber light - yippee!

    Thankyou gas4you.
the only thing that has ever gone wrong on this boiler is the divertor valve and its served me very well and I had it serviced last year.

no I would never try to service it myself but I am always more inclined to find the problem myself which I now have done by getting the book out and reading it.
