My cat has just been diagnosed with renal problems and now has to eat a special diet supplied by the vet. The food contains no medication, so should be available elsewhere possibly cheaper. It's rather what it does not contain that is important to her.
I have googled and yahoo'd to no avail. I've visited websites devoted to renal failure in cats - but the most informative ones are based in the US.
She is currently stuck with Hills prescription food which comes in 2 flavours - one of which (chicken) she does not like.
She cannot have ANY other food other than a renal diet food.
She is currently doing well on the new food (amazingly, as she was always a choosy little madam) and the improvement in her has been quick. I would like to be able to offer her more variety within the constrains of what she can have - and also be able to buy it cheaper!
This was only diagnosed last week so has been a bit of shock really. I took her to the vet as she was drinking so much and wee'ing copious amounts also. This has greatly improved since the new diet.
It's all early stages really and she seems to be fine on the new diet. She displays no signs of illness and is enjoying life. But she is faced with regular blood tests and the possibility of medication.
I am aware this condition will shorten her life and do not intend to prolong things should it go in that direction - but at present she is fine and i just want to give her the best.
She is a rescue cat so I know nothing of her background.
If anyone in the UK has experience of this situation I'd be glad to hear from you.

Royal Canin do 3 varieties; chicken, tuna and beef. Available from http://www.nutrecare.co.uk/prod2.asp?ID=141&sub_cat=513
£26.49 plus £3.95 postage. Delivered by courier. They also do dried food. They are the cheapest I have found for my cat. Hope this helps you. Anyone know of a cheaper supplier???
All the best
