reclaiming ppi charges -beginners help

hi folks

New to this , i'm afraid .

Am I right , that step one is to contact the lender/insurer to determine the charges incurred thus far and to cancel the cover?

On receiving that information (hopefully) , lodging a claim using the Q&A form which is linked on the main page of the site?

I guess , I am looking for the most simple step by step guide out there.

thanks in advance

    Hi and welcome

What you do is pursue through the ones who set this up for you, so the seller then, they have 8 weeks in full to respond.

Follow the guidelines as you have already noted, and go from Stage one of the FOS Questionnaire, keep completed copies as well in case you need to refer to it later on.

You can cancel in writing as well shove the cancellation letter in the same envelope, just request they do this immediately, and to refer to the questionnaire in regards of your PPI complaint.

Post within the post office for proof of posting, good luck.

    Thanks for responding ,

Looking through the questionaire , a concern would be remembering dates and actual method of signing up (rbs credit card). It has been a good number of years , I'm afraid.

The main point , i feel , would be the unsuitability of the cover , in that being unable to work through ill-health/injury Iwould have been paid by my employer . I am thinking that I would have been unable make a claim . Does that make sense?

Apologies , for labouring on this . All help and advice is most welcome .

    Hi there

    That is okay.
Just complete to the best of your knowledge.

You could write a cover letter to enclose with the questionnaire if you want to, to explain the situation on the dates etc.;)

OK , two questionaires filled out and sent , one to RBS the other to MBNA . A bit sketchy on information , dates etc. It's a start , we'll see how it goes. Thanks again for the help and encouragement.
