Why do people have pre payment electric and gas ?

My goodness what a storm the term 'delinquent' has raised.
JasX's post really does bear repeating, to put this in context:
Had he said 'people who have financial problems' instead of 'delinquent' I doubt there would have been this fuss.
I have not read of a single case of someone with a credit meter paying(without difficulty) quarterly or by Direct Debit, requesting a PPM. Especially as up until a short while ago you paid a higher price for gas and electricity as well as the administrative problems of topping up.I didnt have difficulty paying my bills I changed because the meter was naff and the company wouldnt admit it. Proven by the fact that when we changed from a quarterly bill to a ppm our bills went down considerably without changing our lifestyle or making changes to how much electric we used.

we got our coz the person who was meant to be paying the bills never did (sterotypical chav/benefit !!!!)! We are doing an exchange with a family who have a meter also, we are not changing it as we don't have the money and hope not to be there long.0
