House sales up, down or stay as they are??

Right no one knows the right answer, but what do people think house sales will do in the next year?

I personally think sales will go up, we all have our own opinions the reason i think they will go up is because of all the new mortgage products that are coming out with decent rates which only require a small deposit.

I think this will kickstart the market, i know some people have said it has picked up in the last 12 months, but my personal opinion is certain properties have sold, but i dont think house sales have been that great.

I think with the new deals first time buyers, who have been waiting in the wings for better mortgage deals will now take the plunge, i think this is what will kickstart the sales.

Not only this when i was trying to sell in 1998, all the estate agents i spoke to said the same thing, that all they needed was the first time buyers to come back, and i now believe they will.

What do you guys think?

This is not about house prices its about house sales

it doesn't matter- they'll be some one probably in the next posts telling you some anecdotal about their street and everyone is getting repossessed.

If they are getting reposessed someone will probably get a bargain, and it might well be one of these first time buyers who has got a good mortgage deal.

If i was a fist time buyer i would try and get a bargain now, if the right house came along, the worrying thing for me would be if there was a load of houses being reposessed in a street and no one buying them.
  • so people think house sales are going to go down, but dont want to give a reason?

Logic, if that fails you... open your eyes and stop believing what you read, but what you see.

I voted for go down, but really it all depends on this emergency budget in June. If everyone starts feeling the pinch, then people won't be able/willing to spend so much on housing, and the market will slow down. However, if the emergency budget is fairly tame, so people don't notice much difference in their disposable income, then house sales and prices will probably stagnate or maybe rise a little.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

OP - your poll is a little unclear - I think when you refer to 'house sales' you mean 'house prices', rather than number of sales - am I right?

    I voted accordingly.

i'm going to be wating my time here but....

the number of house sales is little irrelevent when looking at house prices.

the neutral number of sale transactions determines whether there is rises or falls.
  • The poll was nothing to do with house prices, ive seen houses for sale for nearly 3 years now and they have not moved, and the prices have not been lowered.

Has i said before i believe house sales have been held up by stiff lending from the mortgage lenders, esepecially for first time buyers, who do not have a large deposit

You people make me laugh, the poll is quite clear and has soon has you can your bringing up house prices.

I dont think it is really, people are going on about a load of houses coming on the market at low prices, due to the capital gains tax and btl investors looking for a quick sale.

If this happens and fist time buyers get decent mortgage rates we could see a glut of first time buyer properties come on the market at bargain prices, and these first time buyers might snap them up, hence house sales increasing but prices not going higher.
