Any recommendations for a Current Account?

I've currently got two bank accounts (personal, current accounts, nothing exciting) one with NatWest and one with Alliance and Leicester. A couple of months back NatWest p***ed me off quite a lot and I decided I was going to close the account (if you want to ask why, you can do, but it's not really relevant to anything.) It's still open because I'm waiting for Virgin Media to take out the final £20 to cover the cost of switching my contract into my ex's name.

Anyway, I want to open another current account with another bank (to replace the NatWest one when I close it.) I like having two because I use one as a savings / back up account. I am wondering whether to just open a second one with A + L but it bothers me how long it takes for my transactions to show up on my online banking.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations over which bank to go with? Or any warnings against any?

HSBC if you go overdrawn.

First Direct if you like to use telephone banking.
