I agree with opinions4u. Why "lock away" at 2.5% when you can get instant access at 2.8%? If you want to lock away for a year or more, index-linked savings certificates will protect you against inflation plus a small bonus (0.85% for one year)

    ... and tax free.

I'm a little worried about having 3 accounts and having to cycle the money through them. Is it just a matter of setting up a direct debit one day after another to swap the money through? I would have my salary paid into a vantage (haven't got one at the moment) then transfer into my current account and the santander manually. I don't have guaranteed internet access so my banking needs to be able to take care of itself sometimes.

It's not so much lock away but I won't be needing it for a year so if I can get a good rate, I want to keep it. So if rates are likely to go up I won't go for it. I also would like to keep adding to the pot, but won't have any need to take money out.
