Also, is it possible to request to have any holidays owed in the final week? As that would really help give me time to pack/move!
The period of notice you need to give is either whatever is stated in your contract of employment or the staturory notice period of one week if it is not stated.
Any outstanding holiday pay accrued is payable when you leave regardless of the time you serve. However there is no right to be paid any other time than when your next pay day will normally be.
You can request to take holiday in lieu of notice however if the company has set procedures for holiday requests, they are within their rights to refuse.
Just to add. This rarely happens but if you were to walk out without serving your notice, they are entitled to recover costs arising because of it, such as the cost of agency staff. As I said, it rarely happens.

No you're not safe - well not entirely. Under employment law, an employer can dismiss you without reason for the first 12 months of employment.

How much holiday do you have?
Another option is to just give notice a bit earlier and have the holiday paid but then they could say take the holiday.
You could give more notice to but then they could counter notice so you finish earlier than you want

Depends how clued up they are and how much they need you for that week.
previously I have kept it simple(long time ago it's been the other way round since).
"Dear employer
I am giving notice that I will be terminating the employment contract on DD.MM.YY.
Due to out standing holidays of X days my last working say will be dd.mm.yy.
Yours
I am out of here"
DD.MM.YY is the notice required from the day after you give the notice.
So if 4 weeks and you want to leave on a Friday hand it in on the Friday NOT the Monday.
You can waffle it up a bit with "it been great working here........."
They can refuse the holiday but must pay it in lieu.0 -

Don't forget you accumulate holiday during your notice.
Do you know the policy re taking holiday in notice?
Do they need you for handover etc.
You could just put a weeks holiday in the notice and then have the rest paid.
If you think they will just pay it anyway if you worked just give notice a week earlier.
DD.MM.YY is the last day you will work, so if you have 4 weeks notice(IIUC you can phone and follow up in writing) and hand in today(May 20th) the contract would terminate on Thurs 17th June. to not work the week last day wopuld be Thurs 10th June0 -
