How long does it take for a Paypal account to become active?

Hi - I want to bid on a paypal only auction - only thing is, the item finishes at midnight. If I open a Paypal account now (only want a buyers acc., not interested in receiving money) will it be validated in time for the auction's end, or does it take a while for the account to become useable. I normally get my cousin to bid and buy Paypal only items for me, but I think she's getting a bit sick of it! Many thanks indeed for any help.

I think (but don't quote me) more or less straight away. I just opened one for my Dad who I've converted to ebay and he only had to fill in his details, wait for the activation email to come (which came staright away) and then click on the link and fill in his password.

TBH if you contact the seller and explain they hopefully would be understanding and wait for the payment, as a seller I know I would on my paypal only auctions. Mine was almost instant.
