e-cheque & unconfirmed address

Hi all, an item that I sold earlier has been paid for by e-cheque, a little miffed as I always find these take much longer than the the 5-7 days estimated by Paypal.
The buyers address is unconfirmed & Paypal states that I won't have sellers protection, it's a UK address.
It's only £12.48 but I can't afford to lose that.
Can I request that the buyer pays in a different way, or should I ask her to confirm the address prior to me posting?
Thank you

Buyers don't always know they have paid by echeque.
It will say you will have no seller protection until it clears. Then it will say OK to send.
It doesn't matter if the address is confirmed or not, you need to wait for the clearing date and the OK to send message.
Just let the buyer know they have paid by echeque and give them an indication of when PP tell you it will clear, explain you will despatch immediately upon this.
Some buyers prefer to cancel and pay another way, but it really isn't for you to ask for a cancellation.0 -
Oh this just happened to me too. Bought some low cost item (£2-£3) on ebay last week. Realised it hadn't arrived yet. Emailed the seller, then checked ebay to find that it had been paid by echeque and was pending. GRRRRR
Had to email the seller to explain and apologise for emailing him prematurely. It's a PITA!4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
If you are using tracking then you need the address you are using to be 'OK to send' to according to paypal. If you are not using tracking then the address does not matter nor does the status, but you must keep your COP in case you need to make a claim from RM.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just to clarify. The status WILL change when the echeque clears or not. If the echeque clears it will give the OK to send message. If not, it will fail and you will receive an email saying it has failed.
Whatever you do, do NOT send until the status changes to OK to send. Sending now will leave you open to a failed echeque and no CoP will cover you.Dear theonlywayisup,
An eCheque payment from Fred Bloggs (fred bloggs email) could not be processed from the sender's bank. Please do not post any items. We have cancelled this transaction and advise you to contact the sender to make new payment arrangements.
Please contact Fred Bloggs regarding this payment.

I haven't been paid by echeque for ages, the last one failed & the buyer seemed to think that it was my fault.
Can sellers refuse to accept them & refund the payment & ask for alternative payment, I know that some sellers do state they won't accept them.
Or does ebay see it as you refusing to accept Paypal?
Without all the non performing seller stuff.0 -
I agree that nothing at all should be sent until echeque clears, but I wasn't aware that the address status changed on clearance.
However it has been ages since i had an echeque (that should guarantee I get one today!)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Unfortunately sellers can't refuse them.
It seems that paypal are in an echeque mood at the moment, I posted last night that my fees to ebay went as an echeque which seems strangely ironic.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. As soolin says, you cannot refuse.
However I do send an email giving the expected clearing/dispatch date. I do also say that if they are desperate for the item before this time, they can cancel the echeque and try another payment method. I take credit/debit cards, so usually I can make it instant, but sometimes, using their Paypal with another card does the trick. I don't see any logic, rhyme or reason in echeques, it just seems to be something to do with the stage of the moon!
Just to clarify on the address aspect. The address will be unconfirmed or confirmed, nothing will change with regards the echeque clearing. But what will change is the status, which will either say the cheque has cleared or failed. You will get an email either way, but on the transaction if it is cleared, it will say OK to send, if it fails it will say cancelled/do not send.0 -
I saw that, maybe I'll withdraw the rest of my money & pay ebay & hope that mine's also an e-cheque.Unfortunately sellers can't refuse them.
