This one surely deserves to be on the main list. A great free music festival (predominantly but not exclusively folk,) Held over the August bank holiday weekend in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.

All main events are free, though there are some paid workshops, and you also need to pay for gigs on Thames riverboats and Steam trains held over the weekend. Go for a day or camp for the weekend (there is a charge for the camp site.)

This isn't specifically related to free music festivals, but my website the Summer Festival Guide has a huge amount of information on there for festivals in the UK and Europe.

Some of the free ones we know about are:
    Danube Island Festival in Vienna
    Northampton Music Festival
    GDIF2014 in Greenwich & London's Docklands

Don't forget the Crystal Palace festival this year, it's wonderful. It rained at Glasto but Palace was super sunny, lots of free stalls, free music all weekend and all the local restaurants and shops ran stalls, competitions and offers, there was even live comedy in Crystal Palace station. It was fab. Do come along and enjoy. Oh, and the beer & cider tent was well worth a visit, there was even a bit of mead! Great weekend, I can't wait for this year's event. Details of the programme will soon be up on the website crystalpalacefestival.org

Fresh from their stint at the Royal Albert Hall and ahead of their summer gigs at Bestival and Knebworth, pop legends Chas 'n' Dave will be taking to the stage at this year’s Bermondsey Carnival.

In a joint statement Chas and Dave said: "We're really looking forward to coming back to Bermondsey for this year’s carnival. It will be such a great way for us to kick off our summer series of festival gigs."
The carnival is a great big family day out and once again Bermondsey Beat have created a great music programme.
    6.30pm Chas and Dave
    5.15pm Rough Science
Rough Science fuse their first love Ska with Indie, Electro Pop and steady jump up dance beats. They are back after taking a break from gigging to record their long awaited debut album and new EP.
    4pm Indika
Indika have deep roots in the Reggae sphere and have toured with such Reggae-greats as Gregory Isaacs, Horace Andy and Mykal Rose. Locally based, they can be found in residency at the Thomas a Beckett bar every Thursday, lending their vast experience to classic tunes from yesteryear as well as playing their own songs, instrumentals, and jammin in Bermondsey Dub style.
    2.45pm Little Devils
Little Devils bring a modern and original flavour to the fabled Blues genre, with lead singer Yoka’s powerful delivery of the bands self-penned tunes earning them wide recognition
Bermondsey Voices are a community choir based in St James Church. They sing a wide variety of material encompassing all kinds of genres from Folk, Pop and Opera with many other weird and wonderful songs in their repetoire. Find out more about them here.

Rotherhithe and Bermondsey Choral Society founded in 1998 and are still going from strength to strength by pushing the boundaries of what a community choir can do. Their repertoire includes well-loved choral classics as well as more modern and rarely performed works and songs. Their latest project is ‘A History of Bermondsey and Rotherhithe in Song’. Find out more here.
Irish dancing display by the Deborah Whelan Irish Dance Academy. Born and raised in South East London, Deborah Whelan, by age twelve she won her first All-Ireland Championship title. In 2002 Deborah reached the pinnacle of her career when she was crowned World Champion. She now holds dance workshops throughout Europe and still finds time to run her very successful dance academy back home in SE16 and has already had three championship winners since January.
The festival is also proud to present our Dance Hall. Created by local dancers, musicians and entrepreneur Laura Erwin, this lively stage will present the best local dancers and there will be a chance to have a go at a range of dance styles from zumba to contemporary. While you recover, enjoy the sounds of young jazz musicians Tomorrow’s Warriors and some fabulous talented young musicians from the All about the Band project.
We also have Rumble if the Jumble our very own mass jumble sale where you might be lucky enough to find a hidden treasure and Reuben Bonds funfair with allsorts of rides and games to keep you busy throughout the day.
