ESA and housemate CT query

Hi,

I'm moving in with a housemate into a flat in july,it will just be the two of us. I currently get LHA/CTB (ESA/DLA) so will my housemate have to pay the full amount or will he be treated as getting single person discount (as essentially he is?)

thanks

You will both be jointly liable for the Council Tax due however you may qualify for up to 50% of the charge in Council Tax Benefit. As there are two of you you cant claim single person Discount.

Although you may get some council tax benefit the remaining balance is the responsbility of both of you pay.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
