99p item not as described

Options
I'm not sure what to do about an unsatisfactory purchase I have made. I bought 3 text books listed as "3 brand new ICT books". On arrival they are anything but brand new.
  • All 3 books are stamped inside the front cover with a school name (indicating they belong to the school)
  • The books are "numbered" on the cover - again indicating to me they are part of a schools set
  • 2 books do seem unused
  • The third book is taty, used, has the sellers personal details written in on the page for doing this (even her candidate number!) and has notes written inside!

I paid .99 and postage of £3.50 (I often buy books this way) do I don't want to send them back as the postage did come to £2.89. I do suspect however that the seller really should have returned them to their school as schools don't tend to stamp and number books they don't want back. I also am a bit peeved that they are so clearly not "brand new" as described. I can't really use them in my work as if my pupils see the other school stamp and the persons details I won't exactly look professional. I have already had feedback from the seller so I'm not going to be negged if I complain.

Should I email my concerns and leave a neutral?

No. You should be clear with your feedback so other people are aware. You have been sold what appears to be second hand school property as "brand new". It is prohibitively expensive to return for a refund.

How can you consider anything other than a negative?
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

With some of my college books they are stamped with the college stamp but I however paid for them because the department said they had run out of funds. The idea was that the school would buy them back at the end of the courses, when they would have a renewed budget. Though they have now turned around and said they wont buy them back now. Though I haven't sold mine on ebay, yet ;)
So it is possible it was that kind of situation, just unlikely. I would talk to the seller before contacting the school.

I've sold some books with school stamps in, but I'd never say they were new. I'd say they were perfect other than the school stamp or something.

  • I think I would always want to talk to seller before leaving a neg - what have you got to lose - she might offer refund and postage back - if you don't get satisfactory result and/or explanation then leave a neg.

If you aren't happy with an item, communication goes a long way IMO. I know they have already left your feedback but they can also follow up their own comments.
I would send a message saying that you know you didn't pay alot but the description said they would be brand new books and they obviously weren't so you would like a part refund and to keep the books. Or to have a full refund the seller should pay the return postage as they listed them incorrectly. The seller will most likely go for the option of a part refund. How they respond to this message would determine my feedback.

  • I'd contact the seller and politely complain to see how they respond before leaving feedback.
Secondhand school or library books which have been obtained legitimately (rather than not returrned when they should have been) are usually, though not necessarily, marked "withdrawn".

i bought some books from my school library and my local library all which were stamped with their name however when they were sold to me they were stamped again to show they had been sold from both these libraries

i would contact the seller see what they say, they may pay your return postage, but if no a informative neg so u dont look bad on their feedback if someone buying from u is checking out feedbacks u left
