We have just been posted to DC. :j
Would be grateful for any advice on what we need to take, do before we got etc?
Going in August so feel like I have a lot to do but not as short notice as some people on this forum thank goodness.

No, but I know someone who is over there at the moment and they are having a ball. If it were me I'd email the person I was replacing and ask them as they'll know best.Murphy's No More Pies Club Member No. 680

Hi I lived in DC for 4 years, boy it is very humid in August, as long as you have air con, you'll be fine, I'd say light clothes and a rain jacket as sometimes the humidity leads to early evening thunderstorm, which brings much needed relief from that heavy headded feeling of it being so humid.
You'll have a blast, lots to see and do, be sure to visit Arlington National Cemetary, "Changing of the Guards" is not to be missed, all the famous graves and tombs of unknown fallen soldiers. So much to see in DC I'll be here all night, Can't help you as far as explaining the street system, even after 4 years I was still at a loss, it goes on a grid system IE 25th+M street, but you'll pick it up I'm sure and they have a fantastic safe and very clean Metro so easy to get about if you don't want to drive.
If you can find it " Baja California Grill" down town 1133 20th street, is yummy.
Have a fab time, I'm very jealous... Where are you going to be based at... I know Fort Myers is just over the bridge in Virginia, only a stones throw from DC.We have just been posted to DC. :j
