Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me.

I'm trying to change my front pads, however, I place the new pads on but when I move the caliper back down it doesn't fit over the new pads! AHH!

I read on the internet I need to push the piston back in but for the life of me can't. I've used the crowbar as a lever, I've used my foot whilst holding onto it but still no joy.

Any one have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance,
Rogar.

Take the cap off the brake master cylinder.Put an old rag around it to catch any fluid that spills out.

To get the caliper piston back in I usually use a g-clamp around the caliper and pushing on the old pad to force it in.There are proper tools for this but I don't have one and this works fine.

Have the pistons moved back in most of the way?
I've had new pads that have been so tight I've given up and filed them down, (with a face mask).

Thanks for all the help guys, am I correct in saying that the piston is the bit which pokes out and has like a rubber ring round it? (this is the only bit I can work out which can be moved back to allow the new pads to fit).

    Yes thats the piston.

Its pretty hard to get it wrong fitting brake pads, no real reason to take it to a garage really. It might take you longer if you don't knwo what you are doing but they will pretty much only go in one way.

If it's a new corsa it'll more likely to reverse the seals in the abs if you just push in the pistons.
You should crack open the bleed nipple and release the fluid that way.

A question. When you took the old pads out of the side that's not going back properly, was one pad worn more than the other?

Whilst I agree with what you said it may be a bit hard to drive it to the garage with the brakes in pieces LOL
