Whatever happens product insurance

Hi all,
Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place!
I bought a washer/dryer nearly 3 years ago and took out the whatever happens product insurance which I pay for every month.
My washer has developed a fault and the engineer attended today - said he had sorted but still has a problem - however my problem is that my washer is a Servis who now no longer exist so the engineer said that some parts are still available but if not the insurance may not replace it as it is not their fault that Servis went into administration.
The engineer actually said "was you going to keep the servis then?" which I didn't really get but said well yes for as long as possible and he said "it might be wise to start saving for a new one then!
Does anyone know where I would stand on this - I would be very cross if I had been paying for cover all this time, only to had to replace it myself anyway.
Thanks
Debbie

I'm afraid it depends on the terms of your insurance. Sometimes they say that if your item is unrepairable then you get nothing. Some say if it's unrepairable you get 50% of the price of a new one. Some could say you get the full price of a new one. As long as the people who sold you the insurance are still in business then you should be able to get what is offered by the terms and conditions. I don't think the fact that the manufacturer has gone bust should affect it, unless specifically mentioned in the terms and conditions it should just be classes as unrepairable and that case will be mentioned in the terms and conditions.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

I beleive my policy states that it cover parts, callout and repair and that if it cannot be repaired they will replace - so I would have thought I would be ok - but now he has put that seed of doubt in my mind!
Thanks !0
