Can I use masonry paint to paint my fence?

I would like to paint my garden fences white but standard fence paint does not come in white.

It is possible to buy 2.5 litres of cuprinol's "garden shades" fence paint in white but this costs over 16 quid.

However, ten litres of white masonry paint in B&Q costs around 19 quid.

Would this be a great moneysaver to paint my garden fences, or is masonry paint no good on wood?

Well I used wood paint on masonary and it's fine so maybe it will be ok the other way round.

I can't believe that masonry paint would be any good on a fence. I think there is an element of "trendy-ness" in the pricing of "coloured" fence paint but all you can do is look around for a good deal. Try trade outlets like Dulux, Johnstones and Crown as well as the sheds like Homebase, B&Q, Wickes.

but is there any reason why masonry paint isn't good on wood? i've heard lots of people say it's fine.

Proper shed/fence paint sinks into the wood like woodstain, while any other paint will just cover the wood.
i suppose in theory proper paint should make the wood last longer as it does sink in.

I think your better off using the woodstain for fences and masonary paint doesnt sink into the wood thuse not only covering the wood but not perserving it.

Apart from not sinking in, i think masonry paint would crack and flake fairly soon as the wood expands and contracts.

Good point about masonary paint cracking your right it would I dont find it sticks very well even to masonary walls and have to use stablishing solutions in the worse parts.
