Burglar Alarm System

Options
Moved into property which already has a wired alarm system.
It seems to work fine, but want to update it.

Looking to add an outside ringing box, (it does have box doesnt ring so might be dummy)

And want to be able to set it, disabling a zone which is a contact on our bedroom door, so that can go to bed with alarm set.

But more importantly, as house is empty for hours at a time, want alarm to ring my mobile if we get broke into.

Found this which would work fine.BT Home Monitor VP1000 which will cost about £200 plus 100 for outside wireless box.

But already got system , seems a bit of a waste. Dont know if cheaper to use or add on

Anyone help

Hello mate.Depends how old the alarm is,some old alarms are basic and not able to dial you,but you can add an autodialer which will dial you if the alarm is tripped,if you know what you are doing this is quite easy to fit and are availiable from your local alarm wholesaler.Who fitted the alarm? What name is on the outside box?

    Good luck.

Don't forget the outside box is the one part of the system that is 1, exposed to the outside elements and 2, hard to get to. So it may well just be broke and you could repair it or replace it with a new one.

Been playing a bit with alarm this afternoon and doing some research on net.

Managed to omit the zone that is connected to bedroom door. So can now sleep a bit better.

    Alarm is a TS500, Menvier.
curlyfairy-How much would an auto dialler cost?
Struggling to find one, might seem like a cheaper option

Think need to get a ladder and look at box.
Any ideas on cost of fitting
    Cheers

Try this for your speech dialer, approx £65.If you go up the ladder make sure you have some ear plugs. If you take the cover off the siren normally rings (tamper switch).Where abouts in the country are you?

You don't really need a burglar alarm. After all, no one's going to burgle your house:A

Throw the thing out. I'll - I mean - you'll feel so much safer without it.;)

  • Sounds very suspicious, are you a burglar Raffles?
Even if an alarm is not switched on it can work as a deterrent.

If you have a wired system already its easy to update since running the wires is in my view the most difficult part.
Far better to do that than replace it with wireless kit.

Take a look at these which should do what you need

    Panel £34.50 plus vat

    http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TSOPTG3.html

    and

    Speech dialler £39.95 plus vat

    http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TSSD.html

They are both easy to fit and work well.

As regards the bellbox Odyssey are good, they have something called "hold off mode" which helps a great deal with fitting and servicing.

There are two schools of thought here. One says what you are saying. The other goes like this.
If I am passing a house and I see a burglar alarm on the wall, I say to myself, "Well, they obviously have something valuable inside. I wonder what it is. There's only one way to find out."

Point taken, it's the same as car alarms, who always investigates an alarm that goes off at night or in a car park.
