Avoid using GAS and ELECTRIC !

Something that really does my head in, is the amount of electricity I have to use on lighting.
I live in an HA house which has a huge oak tree in front and back. Consequently my house gets no natural daylight and I get really depressed living in the dark in the daytime. It is horrible. They say they have no money to cut them back??
I find I have to have the lighting on from the morning just to feel ok. Obviously its all off when I am at work but it is hard to be green and cut costs when you live in a dark house. Maybe I should have been a vampire then it would be ok.:cool:Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

this daylight low energy bulb is absolutely fantastic and keeps the blues away. Google for the cheapest price

I'm thinking of getting a clothes horse for drying this winter. I want to cut down using my tumble dryer. I havent much space in the house for one to be honest.
Do you think I could stick it in my garage?I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD0 -
One of my other 'habits' is switching off the microwave and oven at the wall. Well they've got clocks so they use electricity. We don't look at the clocks anyway, so there is no point in keeping them on.
Might pick up a clothes horse myself at some point. At the moment everything can go outside....but eventually that will probably change.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Have you got room for one of those overhead racks?? Like these:

You need to have it securely fixed to the joists in the ceiling, but they are brilliant, as hot air rises....I have mine over the heater in my hall.

I've got an overhead cast iron airer and I love it :j It's out of the way, doesn't compete for floorspace with all our other clutter  and gets stuff dry really quick. I'd certainly second katieowl's advice to secure really well as once, despite DH being a good diy'er, the thing fell - stopping a fraction short of some small offspring's head - just like the movies :rotfl:To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

I have two of these airers

and i find if i turn them into a triangle shape by folding them carefully - that i can stand both side by side in my bath tub. Which is handy as my bathroom is tiny so they take up no floor space - then if someone wants a bath they are moved into a bedroom for a while, but other than that they dry in there fine and im in a two bed flat.
The other good thing i find is they are light and can be moved - so again as im in a flat i have the walkway above my front door so i can leave the airers up under the walkway and they stay dry and the clothes dry. I also have the stairs for the flat outside my bedroom so again i can hide an erected airer out there too with clotes on to dry
You can get actual ones to fit over a bath too though or on the back of doorsTime to find me again0 -

Obviously no good for the daytime when you need natural lighting but in the evenings I have started to light tealights and fat candles rather than put a light on. My light fittings are the ones that you put 3 light bulbs in. I really want to take 2 bulbs out but they would look silly and I havenit got any "dead" bulbs to put in instead.
That said, we are doing fine with the candles at the moment as it is not getting really dark until quite late on.

How about using lower wattage bulbs, or fitting a dimmer switch0
