Ok, the ball is now back in the dealer's court.

Let's see what he can do. If the figures aren't right, then off we go.

    ;)

Make it clear you're prepared to travel to england - £100 flights and £150 back on the boat to save the £3000 or so that you can get the mainland one at - unless he can make you an offer you cant refuse.

Oh, and be prepared to have to do that, as he may well decide he can get more from another customer.

£15 grand for a year old small car. Unbelievable. You would be cheaper with taxis on the odd occasion you need them.

I was quite surprised as well when I started looking. However, the true cost is not the purchase price but the total cost of ownership.

Update ... the dealer won't budge on the price.

They can't be that keen to sell if they're only offering an 11% discount on the new price for a 6 month old car. And we got the 'we're not making any money on this' line!

He's just lost a sale. Ah well. Back to square one!

You lose in the region of £3000 just driving the average new car off the forecourt. That's an awful lot of money, i'd rather just repair the one I have if/when it goes wrong than throw away £3000 for the privileged of having the shiniest car on the school run.

Did the dealer mention to you that the SE trim on the Golf has just been replaced by 'Match' which has more items as standard for not a huge amount more, so will presumably want to sell their demonstrator car to replace it with a new spec one?

    Hmm, unsurprisingly he didn't.

That may give us more bargaining power!

    Thanks.
