Homebuyer survey on a 1990's flat?

Hi, We are in the process of buying a council owned flat. It is a three storey building. And the flat we are purchasing is on the 1st floor. We're cash buyer. So no mortgage/vaulation survey involved. The flat was built in the 1990's.

My question is, Is it worth it to get the homebuyer survey done on a 20 yrs old flat?

Thanks in advance.

No harm in doing so if it gives you peace of mind. Even though its only 20 years old there may still be issues.

Yes it is worth getting a survey done.
I was in the same position (90s flat) and got a survey which discovered that roof repairs costing £20k were needed, so worth every penny. That was a private flat, in your case with a council flat it's probably more important as if there are any repairs needed the council will bill the private owners i.e. you, and there would be much less room for negotiation.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know how much will it cost? It is a 3 bedroom flat in Birmingham. Many thanks

A few hundred £. Ask if your lender can combine the valuation with a homebuyers survey.
Act in haste, repent at leisure.
