Fair quote for plastering

Hi,
Would appreciate any thoughts on a plastering quote I've been given please. The company was higly recommended by several friends who have used them before, but I've never had this sort of work done before so have no idea if its reasonable. I have a 5x6m x 2.5m high room which needs doing, half of the old plaster has blown so these areas will be dry lined (I will be stripping the old plaster myself) then the whole room needs skimming, although not the ceiling. There are 3 large windows to work around, plus several funny shaped alcoves so its not the simplest job.
I've been told it will take 3 plasterers 3 days and cost £1250 all in. Breaking this down to a daily rate it sounds fairly reasonable, but should it really be taking this long? Some people I've spoken to think this sounds reasonable, especially since I have a bit of peace of mind with them being so highly recommended by friends, but some people think i'm being ripped off....would appreciate any thoughts please!

Sound a bit heavy to me, If they are dot and dabbing boards onto the old walls. 1 Plasterer + 1 labourer 1 Day To dot and dab all the walls, prep the angles and skim the ceiling. Day 2 would be Skim the rest - piece of cake as half of it will be onto the fresh boards they have put up.
So 2 days 2 men. Or if you really have loads of angles/alcoves then 2 men 3 days ABSOLUTE MAXIMUMUM. But never 3 men 3 days
Do you have any pictures of the alcoves?
EDIT: OMG Just noticed that the ceilings not even being skimmed!!!! Wow there really must be a shed load of angles....0 -
Crikey oh Riley, sounds a lot to me? Is that a very large room?
Just had a large sitting room, done, boarded myself and pvad brick wall, lots of corners, angles and ceiling between beams, so not a easy job, plus bonding of wall and then skimming.
2 days work @£120 a day plus £30 materials! So £270............Pawpurrs x0 -
Thanks for your feedback guys, much appreciated. Just had another few quotes in and amazingly they are very similar, been told by another company it'll take 2 plasterers 5 days! Guess its just a more complex job than I imagined. Apparently its to do with it being a very old house and the difficulty of working on uneven stone walls which aren't in great condition. Plus its a pretty large room.
But thanks again for the feedback.0 -
we had a very large lounge plastered 4 yrs ago. inc the ceiling.
it took the plasterer 4 days. he never worked a full 8 hrs though.
650 quid.Get some gorm.0 -
And another thing worth remembering, a poor plastering job will show, seen some and they can let the whole place down, sounds a bit steep, but depends on the area of the country and also the standard of work you want0
