Hello fellow forumers.Re:Pound shop raspberry plants.
I have bought raspberry plants from the pound shop in recent years and not one has taken. They just die off,but at least the shop refunds my money. It is a shame as their strawberry plants have always produced a nice batch of strawberries.Has anyone had a good batch of pound shop raspberries?

Not bought them from the pound shop as I am worried they have been sitting too long in a very small amount of soil or whatever they come in. I bought 10 for about £8 from Parkers and 8 appear to be thriving while only 2 aren't looking so good but still have growth.0

Thanks,I might get some from them.0 -
If you buy from them, search for an online discount code that will give you 10% off your total purchase cost. I made 2 orders in 2 days and got it both times

I had some cheapy ones from Aldi and lidl. They were a mix of various fruit bushes, I think they were 3 in a pack for about £3 ish. I lost one rasp, but the others look great. This is the second year since I got them and after a small amount of fruit last year I am hoping for a better yeild. The Gooseberries are covered in fruit hurrah.
You do take a chance though with the cheaper bushes. I would say only buy them when you know they won't have been sat out for too long, eg when buying from Aldi or Lidl the offer starts from a certain date. If you buy on the date they are usually better than if they have sat on a shop floor for a week. Whatever you decide good luck

Raspberries I have always done some research and found the variety I wanted. They will be there for 10 years, so it's worth putting some work in to find some decent ones, as well as having a very good place in the soil for them.
When you've picked the type you want, you can pretty much buy them from anywhere. But not these pound shop type places and Wilkinsons, they don't sell by name AFAIK.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I agree, I have a random raspberry from Wilko with no idea what variety it is - but the main cane has flowers and strong growth so been pleased for 2 quid.Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0

But you can get 10 canes from somewhere decent for 10 quid. Way better than some rubbish, one cane for 2 quid?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I got some from freecycle last October and they've all taken:D. Most people who have established crops are more than happy to give away some of the canes.
Of the ones I bought from a mail order nursery last year only one of them survived:mad:.0
