I bought my laptop in the Emirates so it's got a two pin plug. Please, what do you call the bit with the plug that connects to the adaptor, and any idea where I can get a 3 pin version?

Not sure what they use in the Emerates but check on the transformer (the black box bit) and make sure the input says 110-230v (or figures near enough).
You don't want to plug a 110v tranformer into 230v or you may have some fun.
Assuming it will run on 230v as well (most do but check all the same), if the two pin plug is at the end of a lead, just cut the thing off and fit a normal 3-pin plug on the end.
If it is all moulded together, you could use an adaptor (like a shaving plug), or simply buy a new mains charger (ebay-maplins-ebuyer etc)0 -
Do you mean one of these?

They are called figure 8 mains leads, 'cos thats what the two pin end on looks like, very common.
