well the graphics does appear to be good, the CPU is good, the hard drive is a good size, the RAM is DDR3 as you wanted and its a Sony

so i would say if you are willing to make the compramise to a 14 inch screen and without the number pad i would go for it as it covers all your other specs and from the comment about day dreaming i woudl say you really liek the look of it ;)
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

yup, graphics card isn't pushing towards 'high end' like some of the others earlier in the thread but certainly capable of doing the job.

Also if the keypad and/or screen do start to bug you nothing stopping you picking up a cheap external USB keyboard and hooking the laptop up to a bigger external screen
(....perhaps even your main living room flatscreeen then play from the sofa with a bluetooth keyboard/mouse? :p)

Thanks both of you, and yes the tv option is a great one (specially for if we ever have to get something on blu ray cos it's not available in DVD ;))

my offer was not accepted and then someone paid the asking price. I've since bought a quite similar spec 14" sony vaio with DDR2 RAM and the following processor:
Intel Core2 Duo P7450 @ 2.13GHz passmark site says it's 1576 which I believe is still good (not as good as i3 but substantially better than my 6yr old desktop!) and I won it for fifty quid lower than my last minute bid well within my budget.
So thanks to everyone who helped me learn what's needed to run Sims 3, I feel like an expert now!
