I've dealt with two management companies in relation to a flat and both were incredibly slow in charging for the service charges.

You have the right to see the audited accounts when they are produced at the year end and can query the costs. Excessive costs can be challenged although bear in mind that gardeners, cleaning contractors etc are not cheap to employ.

The bill won't go away - and it's an important part of selling the flat when you want to leave... if you don't deal with it now and get it sorted, then at some future point when you want to sell you might be unable to because of the backdated bills, or just fear of them.

It's one of the things the buyer's solicitor checks, that you're up to date with the charges.

thanks for your input - I did wonder how this part would work and read something about the payments being backdated upto 6 years, think il give them a call and sort it out - then not long down the line i imagion i will be back on here looking into how to challenge the service fees!!!

    many thanks to everyone
