student loan worries

Options
My parents are worried sick. My niece started uni last October and dropped out in the Jan. but she has not told anyone and is still getting her student loan and rented out her room to a mate. So, she pays for the room and gets some money.
All she is doing is going out and partying she is 20yrs and her mum is also worried sick but says she's not.
She is an intelligent girl or supposed to be. I must say that it is getting me just angry that she is getting away with this I do understand that she will eventually have to pay this back but, there are more needy young people out there who could not support there dreams of uni.
Why have to uni. not picked up that she is not attending the course?

Although this is obviously not a good thing, she is 20 years old and responsible for her own actions. I can understand her parents being worried but it seems a bit OTT for you and your parents to get involved; it really isn't any of your concern.

well, the SLC will find out at the end of the year when she fails and could even ask for all the money back immediately..... but, this is her choice and she will have to deal with the consequences..... and i hope there are serious consequences and i hope she learns from them!

She's broken her loan agreement, and as such can now be asked for repayment in full. Although it sounds harsh, I hope that the SLC do. Sometimes it's the best way to grow up, when you get hit hard.
  • SLC will realise at the end of term, or beginning of next term, and she will be asked to repay it all the grants immediatley. The loans will be repaid as usual; when earning over £15,000. Thats what I know anyway, as my partner left uni.
