Security question (not PCs)

So what I am really looking for are some security cameras to put up in a remote yard with some buildings 400 metres from our house because I have a distinct feeling we are getting visited over night (unusual tyre marks & foot-prints); nothing has gone missing yet but door latches are occasionally not where they should be.

In the perfect world I would electrify the handles or set up thunder-flashes just to give them a surprise, but in the real world I think we can only rely on pad-locks & chains & some night-vision cameras with a good clear focus & recording facility to alert the folks at home (perhaps transmit live pictures) and use in evidence......maybe a light-beam trigger that sends a signal to the house.

There's plenty of firms advertising a variety of devices on the net but can anyone suggest a particular brand/Co. which is successful or particularly effective & reliable.
