VW Passat estate 1.9GL Tdi problem - Advice please.
Options
Apologies in advance for a long question.
I have an old VW Passat estate 1.9GL Tdi, it is an N reg so it is about 15 years old, I bought it as a workhorse to use for work about 6 years ago, it was taken as a trade in at a local garage and with high mileage (it had about 150k on the clock) anyway I took it away with about 1 weeks MOT for £1100 as it stood. I put it in for its MOT and it passed and every year since it has passed, it usually costs me about £100 for its MOT for a new brake pipe or windscreen wipers or an odd bulb.
Since I have had it, it has never ever broken down, I have had new tyres and a new battery and that is it. Every summer I have washed it and we have used it to go around Europe and it has averaged about 58MPG on holiday and 53MPG for work usage. I fill up with diesel between every 750 and 850 miles. I used it about 4 weeks ago for a quick trip to Belgium and it is just comfortable and reliable.
My wife absolutely refuses to drive it (too big) and she has a new(ish) Focus.
I put it on ebay to sell about a year ago with a £600 reserve (and a years tax) and it did not sell so I kept it.
I have had to give up work and my VW is no longer needed, the paint is peeling off the bonnet (but not rusty) so it is not the prettiest of cars but never ever lets me down, it has electric windows, sunroof, mirrors etc and everything works so I have just put it in for its MOT and it has failed and it will cost me £320 at my local garage to get a years MOT.
So at last my question is should I sell it for scrap (£100?) or get an MOT and try again to sell it (for £??)
I really do not want it parked on the drive for another year but I do not want to spend £320 on it and then to sell it for £300!
Any advice from someone in the know would be appreciated.
BTW It now has about 230k miles (and starts 1st time every time)

Road Fund Licence (incorrectly known as Car or Road Tax)0

I'd just flog it with the MOT report, and let someone else worry about it.
Don't scrap it.0 -
I only wash my car when I'm selling it lol.
In the winter its claagged with salt and in the summer its battered with dead flies lol0 -
I would sell it as it stands, these TDi's go forever and are difficult to find so someone might be interested in doing the work themselves. Even the engines go for good money to go into old campervans.0

Rust is always the killer you will get it through 1 or 2 MOT's but eventually it just becomes uneconomic.
OP just stick it on EBay as is with a list of what has been done over the last couple of years and what is required for the MOT (be straight and I think you will get a few hundred quid.0
