To claim disabilty element of tax credits you need to meet criteria. One being getting regular treatment for a mental illness.
What does ''regular'' and ''mental illness'' mean by the tax dept? I see a Psychiatrist evry 3 month roughly.
Had a look and can not find any clue as what they mean by the above words.
May sound a daft question but, does regular mean every week/month?

Not sure, but every 3 months doesn't sound very regular to me.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

That is the norm for appointments for Psychiatrists. All the patients I know under him are the same.
I no longer see my CPN but still on her books. I have voices and at times say things that are highly dangerous. Yet I can't see anything that I might come under than the mental illness. Even though what I have is not a mental illness but is under the mental health act and defined as mental illness.0 -
I'm pretty sure the term 'mental illness' includes pretty much anything from GAD, to things like Bi-Polar right through to mild depression.
There are two components to the eligibility for Disabled Tax Credits.
1) A qualifying benefit test (you have to be on a certain benefit in order to recieve it, such as ESA or DLA)
2) A Disadvantage Test, there are about 20 factors listed, where they detail different scenarios, which subsequently mean you are at a disadvantage or getting or sustaining a job. A likley one, which includes most disabled people is the "Cannot sustain a 5 day working week, for 8 hours a day". There are more in-depth ones, for mobility problems, or mental health issues. But you only need to fulfill one, and the working one could be it.0 -
I have no idea if I could work 5 days a week for 8 hours. Not worked in 3 years due to mental health.
Have voices than can flare at any time.0 -
Byando, You would get Tax Credits if you meet these conditions.......
Extra payments if you have a disability
To qualify for extra payments, you have to meet all of these conditions:- you must be working for 16 hours or more a week
- you must have a disability that makes it difficult for you to get a job
- you must be receiving, or have recently received, a qualifying sickness or disability-related benefit
As for your original question. Regular to me would mean more than once ie your not just going too see the psychatrist, CPN or Mental Health Social Worker for an assessment and it's unknown if you will see them again.
It would mean you are registered as a paitent / service user with them and are given a follow up appointment each time or have access to them via phone or office as in the CPN etc.0 -
