another boiler quote

Options
moving from oil to gas....+ moving location of boiler from kitchen to loft

remove boiler/tank etc
install Worcester greenstar 30/CDI combi
run gas pipe through floors etc to loft from new gas connection
install condensing drain
install honeywell wireless wireless stat
add sentinal
total £2896 + vat

thought it was a touch steep...what do you think?

p.s. is 30 CDI good enough for 11 rad & poss 2 showers that might be coming of electric supply

thanks

I wouldn't recommend the 30 CDi for running 2 showers at the same time. In a perfect world this would only give you about 6l/m at each shower.

I'd advise you to install a system boiler and retain the hot water cylinder or if its a bit knack'd,replace it with a modern one..pressurised if you can afford it.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

why you say keep the tank?...I thought combi was the preferred option generally?

ps. is cdi30 ok if 1 shower was mains (plus 1 bath plus kitchen sink, rads etc)

    thanks

cdi30 is fine for supplying 1 hot outlet at a time, including the bath.

No...thats just perception and received wisdom.

You have to select a suitable appliance for the particular application.

Combis are fine in the right applications but in others, they can be a nightmare.

In your case (and others),my case against a combi would be..

1)Combis put extra strain on your local water and gas supply networks
    2) I dont think the appliance selected would fulfill your hot water requirements
3)If the appliance goes faulty you will have no hot water and it may cost ££££ to fix unless you have a maintenance contract due to the extra complexity of combis
4)OTOH if you have a system boiler and cylinder, even if the boiler fails, you could still use an immersion heater
5)Hot water tanks provide a readily available bulk supply of hot water to service ALL taps at the same time with good flow rates
    6) modern hot water cylinders reheat quickly ,are well insulated and efficient

    Argument for combi..
    1) Many plumbers have it locked in their heads that it is the fix all solution
2)you get a bit of space back from losing your hot water tank.

Un-vented cylinders are very good, but are also very expensive (for a good one) to buy and have fitted, and have to be fitted by a G3 registered engineer.

They are not magical though. You will need at least 20l/min flow, 3.5 Bar pressure and at least a 25mm supply from the street with 22mm going to the cylinder to get the best out of them.

Why have you been quoted plus vat?

2800 inc vat wouldnt be far off, depends on how much hassle it would be to remove your tank etc
