Travelcard vs. Oyster
Options
Hi everyone,
Firstly, sorry if this is already covered elsewhere! I am soon to be commuting daily from Gospel Oak overground station to Hackney Central overground station in London daily (at peak time). On the National Rail website, it tells me a season ticket from GO to HC will cost £760. However, a TFL travelcard for Zones 1-2 seems to cost £1032. That seems to me a pretty hefty saving! Can someone tell me if this is correct, or am I missing something? Can I add the GO-HC £760 onto an Oyster Card, so I can have the convenience of an Oyster Card with the price saving of a National Rail travel card?
Thanks in advance for all your help!

The difference is that one will be point to point, only allowing travel; between your start and destination and the other is a pass which allows unlimited travel on buses, trams, overground and tube within zones 1 and 2. My comparisons are around £3000 point to point or £3600 including the tubes etc. As I need the tubes, I do not have a choice and must pay £3600 but your different of £272 a year or just over £5 per week is a small price to pay when you consider that a single tube journey can cost £3/4 each way. If you need to use the tube or bus after the overground journey, you need the zone 1 and 2 anyway. I would buy the 1 and 2 card even if I just used a bus or tube at the weekend.0

A zone 2 only railcard is £760 and that can be on Oyster. It may well be the basis of the National Rail site price, and it's what you need for your journey.
Maybe some PAYG money for the occasional foray elsewhere? Depens how often you need it.
As I understand it any railcard covers buses in all zones so you wouldn't need anything extra for bus travel.0
