Not sure, but will be interested in any replies as my rhubarb isn't doing very well this year. In fact one of them seems to have dissappeared all together.

  • Yes am puzzled as it`s been growing really strong till now
  • Dunno... all I know is to cut the flower off when they come to encourage better stalks...

My guess would be if they've turned yellow they're not going to recover, chop them off and hope the good ones are ok as they're not focusing on the dying ones.

Glad I found this, I didn't realise I had to cut the flower off. :o

I've often had lower leaves which were yellow, I just cut them off and the plant keeps producing new stalks.
  • Ok will cut those 2 leaves off thanks !

OK I get the idea why you should do this with newish plants. When we moved in December I inherited three of the biggest plants I've ever seen and I can't keep up with the stalks - I'm bringing bundles of the stuff to work to give away and it still looks like I've taken nothing! ( Will be dividing them in the autumn)

I've got one flower stalk and I was going to leave it as it looks quite pretty - but I'll cut it before it goes to seed. Is this ok?

    Thanks JSH.

I would cut it out now, it will weaken the plant, but as you have three it is your choice of course

I would leave one clump undivided, to give you next years crop, then divide it a year after the other two, IYSWIM
