Buying a house with no double glazing

I have seen a house I like but it has no double glazing and it will be a shame to double glaze as it wil loose all its nice features on the windows. Any idea how much it will cost to double glaze a 3 beds semi? Also how uncomfortable will it be without double glazling and how costly in winter? It looks nice as it is. Thanks

The cost of double glazing very much depends on the company used.
Just make sure you get at least 3 seperate quotes for the job.
Double glazing cuts down your heating bills. How cold your house would be without it, depends on lots of other things too.- Which direction the house faces.
- Whether you have cavity wall insulation or not.
- Whether it is a terraced, semi or detached property.
- Whether you have sufficient roof insulation.
- Whether doors are draftproofed or not.
- The efficiency of the central heating system.
Don't let it put you off buying the house, though. When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0 -
If you don't like the idea of plastic, or ali windows. You could also look at a joinery company. They could make you double glazed wooden windows to suit your house.
If you do this, there are a couple of points you need to remember. The windows MUST comply with part L of the building regs. Also, if a joiners fit the windows, unless they are registered with FENSA (less likely than a window company), you will have to pay your local council building regs to inspect the windows, and issue you with a certificate saying they comply with part L. You must get this certificate. Local councils have different charges for this service. It would normally be around the £100-£150 mark, but could be more or less depending on the council. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I lived in a house that wasnt double glased for 11 years before moving into my own flat, double glazing makes hell of a difference but you get used to it eventually!!!
I found getting out of bed in the winter the hardest!!!0 -

, about £3500. if you go fancy. i had leadlights and it cost me thatYou're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on0 -
I would say about £2500 for plain windows. The fewer panes you have, the cheaper each window will be - eg a single long fanlight will be cheaper than two smaller ones and a plain pane.
If you really want to keep the features, perhaps you should consider secondary glazing? Not as efficient as the proper DG - depends how much money on saving energy you're willing to sacrifice for the appearance.0
